'Homos! in the Hills' is a loosely-knit documentary of the San Francisco gay & lesbian pride weekend of June 29 and 30, 1991, including footage from Pink Saturday and the LGBT parade. The theme of the parade in 1991 was "Hand in Hand Together." However, it was marred with controversy, mostly due to the continuation of the AIDS epidemic at the time and police violence against the gay & lesbian community.
I believe 1991 was the first Pink Saturday celebration on the night before the parade, a street fair-like celebration, hosted by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. It was crowded but still fun that year. It's now (2011) done what things tend to do in San Francisco: grown too large to be manageable.
By the time of this video in 1991, the assimilationist steam roller of the LGBT community had taken hold, and the parade was on the verge of becoming the mainstream cesspool("celeebration" of mass consumption etc. etc.) it is now, but there was much less corporate sponsorship and still some political activism that harked back to the earlier decade of the 1970s.
Warning: there is some male frontal nudity toward the end of the video. Two men dancing naked on their terraces of apartments on Castro Street.
